On the Road with Roxanne

Last year was a very busy year "on the road" -- and in the middle of all the hooplah, last August I set up my own workshop. Wearing several layers of clothing, and perfecting gloves with open fingers, I torched out in my workshed (with no heat) through the winter, making new metal pieces.

2009 - this spring I sold my peace wares at the new and improved HOPE Festival, sponsored by the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine. It was a spanking new "green" building at the University of Maine with huge crowds, great music and over 60 nonprofit organizations. It was the first successful festival of the season for me and now the summer of 2009 is upon us!

"Harry's Hoedown" on the beautiful hill in Starks, Maine was truly exciting in June, but a washout for me! The rain never seemed to let up, and every time I put out my jewelry it started raining again. Let's hope the sun comes out for the next festival, "Be Here Now" on August 14-16 (The Brew'll be playing as well as other good bands).
Festivals continue in the fall during harvest time. www.harryshill.com

I'll be sellling my peace wares at Beltek Festival, July 31-August 2 in Belmont, Maine (just out of Belfast). I attended this techno-DJ music festival for the first time last summer. It was one of the most exciting fests I've been to - with all-night rave neon lights dancing, great vendors and artisans and lots of half-naked wild firepot twirlers. www.beltekfestival.com

In the fall I'll be boothing at the Common Ground Fair, Sept. 25-27, in Unity, Maine. This is the 33rd year of the fair, one of the largest fairs ever celebrating rural living. Last year over 59,000 people attended. You just can't miss this one! I'll be over in the Social & Political Action tent, working with the Peace People next to the Hemp People and will be offering a workshop on the peace symbol same as last year. www.mofga.org

MAINE PEACE WORKS is still in several stores around Maine:

Downtown Bangor - visit Metropolitan Soul in Westmarket Square.
Uptown Bangor - visit Sunrich Tanning Boutique on Union Street (across from Dunkin' Donuts).
Augusta - visit Cosmic Charlie's on Water Street down by the Kennebec River; Cosmic Charlie's has now moved to a huge new store down the street (near Java Joe's). Check out all the new paraphernalia and the awesome downstairs over 18 section!

Something new - I'm working in copper alot these days --there's a big call for it -- and now I am offering all-copper Broken Peace pendants. I also started making hat pins and zipper pulls. Check the metal piece page soon for new postings.

I am also doing a bit of custom work. Let me know if there is a peace design you want and we can work together on it!

Keep hope alive, Roxanne
